Our team is constantly inspired by the leadership and sense of community demonstrated across the Far Northwest Side, especially by some of our most dedicated volunteers and advocates: our seniors. One way our office is supporting our older adult community is through our new Senior Series, which provides ongoing, informative presentations on topics and resources that matter to our senior neighbors.
Through our Senior Advisory Council, which we host in partnership with Eden United Church of Christ, we have heard directly from older adults about the desire for more opportunities to connect, learn, and access resources. Whether through a resource fair, educational presentation, or community event, our seniors continue to show a strong commitment to staying engaged.
For our first Senior Series presentation, our office partnered with the Center for Disability and Elder Law (CDEL) to host an educational session on Powers of Attorney. Nearly 50 community members joined us, asked thoughtful questions, and participated in an engaging conversation. The following month, we hosted a hands-on workshop where 10 attorneys helped community members complete their Power of Attorney documents, with volunteer notaries also available to authenticate the paperwork.
It was wonderful to see such strong turnout and engagement at both events. We are excited to continue building on this series and providing our older adult community with valuable information and resources.
Our next Senior Series event will take place on Wednesday, October 14, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the Jefferson Park Library (5363 W. Lawrence Ave.). Our office will partner with the Illinois Attorney General’s Office for a presentation on scam prevention.
Scams, particularly those targeting seniors, are constantly evolving. Staying informed about common scams, new tactics, and ways to protect ourselves and our loved ones is an important part of keeping our community safe.
