Through the leadership of NW Side Moms Demand Action, Senator Robert Martwick and I gathered with neighbors from around the NW side on July 9th, to learn about urban gun violence and actions we all can take to end gun violence, whether in Highland Park or every summer weekend in Chicago. This event would not have been possible without the grassroots work of NW Side Moms Demand Action as well as Chicago CRED and Institute for Nonviolence Chicago. Thank-you for helping our communities get “up close” to the work you do everyday. There is still a long way to go before our city and state can heal from the trauma caused by gun violence and we look forward to continuing to learn and advocate for proven ways to reduce gun violence and heal our communities at a scale that matches the size of the pain.
